Indian Motorcycles made their first bike nearly 120 years ago in Springfield, Massachusetts, the same city where basketball was invented. At first, Hendee Manufacturing produced Indian motorcycles, and in 1923, they officially became the Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company.

In the early years, Indian saw significant success in racing. Back in 1911, their team swept the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy. Until 1953, they produced some of the best motorcycles you could find in the United States. While we weren’t alive back then, we can imagine cruising around on an Indian motorcycle in the 1950s was just majestic. 

Interestingly, the company went bankrupt in 1953, but the name has carried on. Today, one of the most trusted names in Powersports produces Indian Motorcycles: Polaris.
